Refined Furniture’s core values center around family, artisan craft, and environmental sustainability. Their products and business practices reflect these focused values.
We are a faith based and family-oriented business. We believe that as we continually pursue the heart of our Heavenly Father, He will give us unique ways to accomplish the goals that He has given us. As we are reaching a milestone that we have envisioned for years by launching a shoppable store, our visions for the future are even bigger still. We are always seeking new ways to bring our faith, family, and furniture out into our community.
Refined Furniture’s mission is creating sustainable, original designs using traditional American woodworking techniques.
Stephen and Angela are part of a generational line of craftsmen. Stephen grew up in a family that would design, and build household items instead of purchasing them. Growing up with these experiences imparted to him the necessary skills and desire to see a need met through design, and, a creative process that involved working with his hands.
Angela grew up visiting her father in his wood shop where she remembers playing in the sawdust and building small projects with him. The creative, and entrepreneurial spirit, that her parents carried really inspired her to get married, have a family, and a business to call their own and to leave an inheritance of skill and knowledge for the next generation.
Stephen and Angela met at their church, The Rock of NWA, in 2008. They married in 2011 and now have three children named River, Ember, and Blaze. They spent several years intentionally building and gifting furniture to friends and loved ones. This led to some great opportunities for Stephen to build and place furniture throughout some of the coolest spots in NW Arkansas while working for a few local furniture companies. Through these experiences, Stephen and Angela were led back to their desire to run a family business.
Then, they founded Prosper Customs and began taking custom woodworking orders in May of 2020. After working on a portfolio filled with custom furniture, built-in bookshelves, and restaurant tables, the Kiehns decided to streamline their building process and to finally begin to present their original designs to the public. This is how Refined Furniture was born.
The benefits of buying American-made furniture extend far beyond your own home. Your decision to purchase our American-made furniture means a sustainable economy for the local Arkansas community and making sure the tradition of high quality American craftsmanship lives on.
River, Ember and Blaze are an important part of the Refined Furniture team. Their little hands play a part in selecting the wood that is chosen for our home good products and they are an integral part of brainstorming ideas for our Woodie Goodies membership club. Without them, there would be too much quality lumber going to waste.
One of the biggest problems you will find in the woodworking industry is the amount of quality wood material that is tossed out or “scrapped” at the end each and every job. We are challenging ourselves to take what we are calling “offcuts” from our furniture builds and repurposing as much quality material as possible. We aim to do this by turning wood shavings into our Fire Starters, offcuts into our beautiful Home Good products, and our waste into fire kindling bundles.
Refined Furniture offers customers a full range of furniture and home good products, all handmade with beautiful hardwoods.
