The Rich Beauty and Strength of American Black Walnut

Walnut is dark, hard, dense and fine-grained. It is valued by woodworkers for its strength, texture and color. It is polished to a very smooth finish and varies in color from creamy white in the sapwood to dark chocolate in the heartwood.

Natural walnut will develop a lustrous sheen over the years. As the only dark brown wood in the country, it has a huge fan base of dedicated woodworkers and lovers of fine furniture. Walnut is also used in high-end cabinets, natural hardwood floors, kitchenware, gun stocks, and more.

While there are many species of walnut trees, only a few are native to North America. Of these, eastern black walnut, also known as American black walnut or American walnut, is one that is commonly used in woodworking.

Oak wood

The Timeless Beauty and Durability of American Oak

Oak is one of the most popular woods for furniture and flooring in America. It is often found in traditional, artisan, and mission-style furniture. Oak is very durable, easy to work with, and looks great stained or as a clean, natural finish.

Oak comes in a variety of shades, but its texture is very unique, making it one of the more recognizable species.

One of the reasons oak trees can take on so many different appearances is that there is more than one type of oak tree. In fact, more than 60 varieties are grown in the United States alone. When it comes to furniture making and other uses in the home, the most common tree species are red oak and white oak. Both are amazing options and work well in busy households due to their longevity.

WOOD FINISH

Eco-Friendly Rubio Monocoat

Rubio Monocoat makes a plant-based, hardwax oil wood finish that is 0% VOC, durable, matte and bonds with the wood on a molecular level. What we love about this wood finish is that it keeps the natural feel of the wood and accents its natural beauty, all while providing waterproof protection.

One of the biggest problems you will find in the woodworking industry is the amount of quality wood material that is tossed out or “scrapped” at the end each and every job. We are challenging ourselves to take what we are calling “offcuts” from our furniture builds and repurposing as much quality material as possible. We aim to do this by turning wood shavings into our Fire Starters, offcuts into our beautiful Home Good products, and our waste into fire kindling bundles.

Home Goods Finish

Odie's oil: Pure, Non-Toxic Wood Finish

Odie’s oil uses the finest oils & waxes that evolved in nature providing a beautiful finish. It contains absolutely no toxic chemicals, solvents, catalysts, VOC’s, allergens, or hardeners. We love using this product on our home good items because it is 100% food safe!
